From years, scientists were trying to use solar power as an alternative of electric power but they were not getting any success. However, with young minds, new ideas, and the advancement in technology in has made it possible with solar systems. Solar systems have solar panels, which attract sunlight and height and change into energy and that helps to run those machines and appliances, which are being run by electricity. In the past only rigid panels were being made, those panel are too big and it is hard to place those panels from one place to another. Now solar industry have developed and improved and they are making flexible solar panels, which are bendable and foldable and have very less weight.
There are two types of flexible solar panels. The difference between both types is the cell, which are being made with different material, amorphous silicon and Copper Indium Gallium Selenide, or CIGS cells. Manufacturers are trying to come up with a third type of panels which will be organic but that has not happened yet.
Manufacturers are using very thin amorphous silicon to make these panels. This material gets vapor-deposited and is being attached to glass and metal frame. This material is being vapor-deposited on very low temperature. Too much sunlight can destroy the cells so it is better not to leave these panels outside for too long.
Copper Indium Gallium Selenide
To make these panels, four different materials are being used. At first, these panels were not efficient in their performance but now they have improved and are working better. Three of four materials can be harmful and toxic. Only copper present in these panels is harmless.
These panels are best for boats, marines and other vehicles. Flexible solar panels for campervans are also proving very beneficial. People are using these panels for cabins and camps while they are on an adventure. People do not like to carry heavy objects when they are traveling. Flexible solar panels are best because they are lightweight and can be kept in bags. Solar systems are also being used for aircrafts and watercrafts but because ships and planes need a lot of energy, so they are using rigid panels. Marine boats on the other hand do not want many lights so to charge marine batteries these panels are being used. For marines semi flexible solar panels are best because they do not have any metal or glass frame, which can damage the surface and they can bear a little weight.
Installing these frames is not a very hard task. There are many methods to install these panels but the easiest and fastest way is to glue them on the surface. These panels also need maintenance to increase their lives. To do that you can clean them and keep them charged. They are not waterproof so washing is not a good idea but you can clean it with a wet cloth with gentle hands. These panels are getting popular day by day and because of that the market of flexible solar panel in growing faster.
